What is 101st 3rd brigade?

The 101st Airborne Division, 3rd Brigade Combat Team is a U.S. Army unit headquartered at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The brigade consists of around 3,500 soldiers and is one of the eight brigades of the 101st Airborne Division. The brigade has a long history of combat operations, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. They are trained in air assault operations, and their primary mission is to rapidly deploy, conduct offensive air assault operations and secure key objectives in order to deny the enemy freedom of movement. The 3rd Brigade also provides support to humanitarian and disaster relief operations both domestically and abroad. Its motto is "Rakkasans" which is a Japanese word meaning "falling down umbrella", and is a tribute to the parachute jumps made by the brigade in World War II.
